How to Restore 800+ Benefits After Loss of UKR Status
Restoring UKR status in the register does not automatically resume the 800+ payment — these are two separate steps. First you must restore UKR status itself, and then separately notify ZUS or file a new application; otherwise the payment will remain suspended even with a valid status.

Why the 800+ payment stops together with UKR status
The right to 800+ for Ukrainian citizens is tied specifically to valid UKR status in the PESEL register — as soon as the status is technically changed to NUE, the ZUS system loses the legal basis to continue the payment.
This happens for the same reasons that lead to loss of the status itself: leaving Poland for more than 30 days, an unverified identity after 31 August 2026, or switching to another type of stay, for example a temporary residence card.
The system reacts to the status change automatically and without prior notice — the applicant usually learns of the payment suspension after the fact, when the next payment simply does not arrive in the account.
You can check the reason for a specific suspension via the PUE ZUS account — it usually shows the status of the last processed application and the reason the payment was suspended, even before a personal visit to a branch.
Step 1 — restore UKR status itself
Before contacting ZUS about the payment, you must make sure that UKR status in the PESEL register has already been restored — without this, any application to ZUS will have no basis for a positive decision.
Upon return to Poland via an external EU border within 30 days, the status is restored automatically when the purpose of entry related to temporary protection is declared.
If the absence exceeded 30 days or the reason for suspension was an unverified identity, the status must be restored by a separate application to the voivodeship or gmina, depending on the specific reason for the loss.

If the reason for suspension was an unverified identity, restoration is done by visiting the gmina with a valid passport — after the data are updated, the status should return to UKR within several business days.
Step 2 — separately notify ZUS or file a new application
Even after UKR status is restored, the 800+ payment does not resume on its own — ZUS must be notified of the restored status separately, via the PUE ZUS account or a personal visit to a branch.
In many cases you will need to file a new application for the current benefit period, not merely an “update of data” — especially if several months have already passed since the suspension.
The application can be filed online via PUE ZUS without a personal visit — this is generally the fastest method if all required documents are already prepared and scanned in advance.
When reviewing a new application, ZUS checks the legality of stay, the actual residence of the applicant and the child in Poland, and — for UKR status — the additional conditions in force from February 2026.
The processing time for a new application after status restoration is not instantaneous — you should allow several weeks for this and not expect the payment to resume automatically the following month.
New 800+ conditions for UKR status from 1 February 2026
On 31 January 2026, the 800+ payment for Ukrainian citizens with UKR status was suspended en masse — to retain the right to the payment, a new application had to be filed for the 2025/2026 benefit period.
This reform affected approximately 150 thousand recipients and added new conditions that previously did not apply specifically to the UKR status category.

Failure to file an application means no payment — this applies even to those who previously received 800+ without any interruption and changed nothing in their own situation.
The professional activity condition is checked specifically at the time of filing the application, not over the entire prior period, so a short gap without formal employment immediately before the application may lead to refusal even where the overall situation is stable.
Confirmation of the child’s education is usually obtained automatically from the educational institution via the school register, but in disputed cases it is advisable to have a certificate from the school or kindergarten in case of an additional request from ZUS.
Switching to a residence card — a separate restoration scenario
Obtaining a temporary residence card automatically means loss of UKR status in the register — even if actual stay in Poland was not interrupted for a single day.
In that case ZUS does not learn of the change of the basis of stay on its own — the applicant must notify this personally in order to continue receiving 800+ under the general rules, without the additional requirements tied specifically to UKR status.
Skipping this step is one of the most frequent reasons for an unexpected payment suspension among those who recently legalized their stay through a residence card and did not link that decision to child benefits.
Under the general rules without a link to UKR status, the requirements on professional activity and the child’s education specifically in a Polish institution do not apply to the same extent — the conditions for receiving 800+ are then determined by other, general programme rules.
Therefore, from a practical standpoint, switching to a residence card should be viewed not only as a step in legalization but also as a moment that requires a separate visit or application specifically regarding child benefits — in parallel with other formalities.
